“Before our trip we did a little research on what plantation had more of a chance of educational impact, without the disrespect to the slaves. The Whitney Plantation was one that focused more on the slaves rather than glorifying other aspects that shouldn’t be. So much to see the tour was about 2 hours and we could have probably stayed there another hour. Beautiful art! Wished a few other stuff could have been open like the big house, blacksmith shop. The girls at the gift shop were so nice. Bus driver was super friendly and funny.”

Our driver Kendrell, made the ride so enjoyable, sharing fascinating information about New Orleans, the Mississippi River, and the plantations along the way. When we arrived, our guide, Justin, gave an outstanding tour. He provided such a deep and powerful education about the lives of the enslaved people, their struggles, and their resilience. Justin’s way of telling the story was heartfelt and unforgettable, reminding us why it’s so important to never forget this history. “Whitney Plantation was really good for the museum of slavery, and fair trade products rather than the usual souvenirs in the gift shop. The airboat tour was amazing! Lots of alligator sitings, beautiful scenery, friendly and informative ‘captain’. And our driver to and from the plantation and airboat tour (Bam Bam) was friendly and knowledgeable, giving us lots of local information and stopping for photo opportunities on the way (the house where Django was filmed, and the driveway where the ‘Run Forest Run’ scene from Forest Gump was filmed, for example. I would definitely recommend this day to anyone visiting New Orleans.”
